Epidemie lie au virus EV71

Epidémie liée au virus gastro-intestinal EV71

Sans qu’il n’y ait lieu d’être alarmiste à ce stade, le Consulat général de France à Canton souhaite informer la communauté française de l’épidémie liée au virus EV71 qui sévit actuellement en Chine.

L’épidémie de “hand, foot and mouth disease” liée au virus gastro-intestinal EV71 qui a débuté initialement dans le nord de la Chine touche aujourd’hui la province du Guangdong. La Chine dénombre 4.987 cas et la ville de Canton 104 à elle seule.

Un plan d’urgence et de veille a été mis en place par les autorités du Guangdong : renforcement des équipes médicales, veille sanitaire, formation du personnel médical, création d’un groupe d’experts du centre de contrôle des maladies contagieuses de la province composé d’experts de l’hôpital pour enfants de Canton, de l’hôpital des épidémies de Canton et de l’hôpital pour enfants de la province du Guangdong.

Le 4 mai, le Guangdong dénombrait 925 enfants atteints du virus gastro-intestinal EV71. Deux enfants sont décèdés dans le district de Gaoming à Foshan, un troisième est décédé dans la ville de Maoming.

Il convient donc de noter le caractère particulièrement virulent de cette épidémie chez les enfants. Si la plupart des enfants touchés par le virus viennent de zones rurales où les conditions sanitaires sont moins bonnes, il convient néanmoins d’être vigilant.

Les symptômes de ce virus sont les suivants : fièvres légères, suivies de cloques et d’ulcères de la bouche, de rougeurs et éruptions cutanées au niveau des mains et des pieds.

Quelques recommandations sont données à titre préventif : se laver les mains fréquemment, bien ventiler les habitations et stériliser les objets en contact avec les enfants.

Enfin, si nécessaire, consulter un médecin.
